Hi chaps

I have been getting grey hairs this week from one of my clients. I have them on a hosting package with afrihost and since this whole SAT-3 debacle they have been having intermittent issues with sending mail. I have since changed the smtp server to all the standard alternatives including afrihost.co.za but the problem is still persisting.

I am considering somehow hosting a smtp server specifically for this client and was hoping to get some pointers from you intelligent lot.
How would I go about setting up a reliable smtp server for a client?

Any advice or suggestions will be much appreciated.

Thanks

It depends somewhat on what is causing the delivery problems. If the domain is blacklisted due to spam from a virus infected computer or the domain is misconfigured then a new server won't solve this.

What exactly is the problem that you are experiencing?

Who is your client using for their connectivity? I suspect that this may very well be the cause of the issue.
Of recent DSL providers have been preventing smtp traffic on ports 587 (the alternative to 25 where port 25 is generally blocked).

I would start off by posting a few telnet test results from your client's network and take it from there.
If they are being blocked on port 25 and 587 then feel free to send me a PM as we've setup alternate ports for our clients who are in similar situations.

The above is way more affordable than setting up and managing a mail server for one client.
