On behalf of a colleague of mine , please offer input.

Hi guys ,

Need some advice , I started a blog a while back and its grown quiet substantially. My problem is the hosting cost’s , I am currently on an Elite package which is R250 for a 3GB bandwidth and something like 4 GB diskspace. My next option is a corporate option at R456 which will allow me 5GB bandwidth p/m. My issue is the bandwidth not the diskspace. Any advice ? I feel R456 is too much.

My second question is that I have been asked by a Vendor to advertise on my site and I don’t know how much too charge , the site is doing really well though as can be seen from the screenshots I pulled of the site stats.

hmmm that expensive.

I'm with Afrihost and I pay about R100 per month. I get 1.5GB of disk space and 50GB per month of bandwidth to transfer. I was 5GB before but it was increased at no charge to me.

domain is .co.za registered and hosted in RSA.

maybe check with them (Afrihost)

If you're happy to host internationally you can get 100gb traffic for R42 per month through AmpleHosting.co.za

It's very good value for money we'll also help you transfer your website content for free.

As far at advertising costs? some people charge per click, others charge a monthly fee. Some charge per impression.

It would all depend on the amount of traffic you receive on your website. If price is not important - just ask the advertiser what they would be happy to pay and take it from there.

i used to use hostgator then moved onto a dedicated server with my own ip... $4.95 on a shared server with hostgator...everything is unlimited and it comes with CPANEL which is the best panel software available in my eyes!!! ... www.hostgator.com ...

amplehosting seems quite good...pity i can't use you guys :( or i would have phoned a long time ago to set up my hosting. haha.

I've recently moved my site over to 000webhost, absolutely free, 1.5gig's space and 100gig's bandwidth per month. No forced advertising or forum posts required.

The only issue I had with it was the free system only allows you 5 email boxes, and I needed more, so I moved my email to Google Apps standard and left the web hosting with them. Works great. I'd recommend you host your DNS with either EditDNS or EveryDNS, that way you can easily split your email and hosting without hassles.

If you need help pm.

For simple DNS I use EveryDNS.net. ZoneEdit is also free (up to 5 domains, I think) but has some extra features like email forwarding.

I've used the free 000webhost hosting a year or two ago but the service was not very reliable. I often received Read Timeout errors.
