Hi
I want to start a website for my biz,we are consumer service biz,the info posted on the website will be deals we offer,etc I want to go DIY for this project (Website design) using wordpress,so I am divided on who to use to register domain name and all that,currently I have afrihost in mind,

What other services should I check out? I really don't want to pay +/- R3000 for website design,please give tips on DIY ;-)

Host on CPanel, use Wordpress and get a decent theme....
Theme forest.com should be a good start
 
Check out Joomla CMS as well, also thousands of templates available online.
 
Two other template sites that have lots of templates for wordpress / joomla or just plain html if you want to edit a site you like to your needs are :

If you want to use a CMS application I can highly recommend E107, its lesser known but also has less security issues than joomla / wordpress (so many people use those that the exploits for them are more available and needs to get patched more often)

I agree with the CPanel/Wordpress route. There are thousands of free Wordpress themes to selects from, just Google 'Free Wordpress Templates'.

IMO Wordpress should be easier to get the hang of than Joomla. Joomla is also pretty easy but for me personally Wordpress work the way you 'think' it should so sometimes easier to figure things out.

I have my site with HostMonster. I saw they have a special on domain names for 50% less. Think they now ask something like US$5 for a domain name. Hosting works out to around R800 a year with unlimited space and bandwidth. There are some local companies you can look at as well, Hetzner is the first that comes to mind and I know they also have an option to host your site in Germany where traffic is also unlimited.

Not sure whether you already have a domain name. If not then check out this site. You enter the name you want and it then checks all the social sites for you to see whether that same name is available or not. This is a quick way to see whether you can use the same name on twitter, facebook etc...

oscarlets, as suggested in other posts, you can buy a Wordpress theme and in a few simple clicks install WordPress or Joomla on our platform. Take a look at our hosting packages in signature below, we use cPanel to manage your domain
