Hi guys,
I want to host a data-intensive website to test market reception in South Africa but am concerned about the costs of using AWS, Azure or other cloud providers because the daily backend feeds are going to be massive.
1. Has anyone here hosted from home in Gauteng with any amount of reliability (it doesn't have to be 5 nine up time)?
2. Which service provider are you using?
3. What sort of bandwidth would I need for 1'000 daily users consuming mostly text (compare a generic finance/markets website).
3. How much are you spending for fixed IP? (Do I even need a fixed IP or can I wing it with DynDNS type of service?)
4. What setup do you have for power backup?
Any other thoughts appeciated ... is it worth the hassle.
