Hosting providers for Exchange Envinronment

Hi all.

I'm doing some research for a non-profit I work with, and would really appreciate some insight. Our email is hosted on an exchange server, and we are currently paying north of R1000/month for 6 email addresses (±R200/address/month)

1. Is that a normal price for a hosted exchange server?
2. Which providers would you recommend who do hosted exchange servers?

Also, we're running through Mimecast. I know Mimecast has something to do with security (because they keep redirecting links I receive in my emails ), but is it possible they are serving any other purpose in our email hosting setup.

You have a a few options...
Hosted Exchange (HEX) with Mimecast S1 and A1 should be around R160-R200 per user per month.
Mimecast S1 is email security and filtering (secure email gateway, targeted threat protection, impersonation protection, url protection and attachment protection). Would definitely recommend any email solution to have this service. As a stand-alone solution your price points should be between R40-R50 per user per month for S1

Mimecast A1 is unlimited 99 year archiving for your mailbox. Every single email sent and received is archived which means you can lose access to Exchange or the OST but still have every email stored in Mimecast.

Your Exchange licenses and compute cost will give you a per user cost of around R50-R60 per mailbox per month.

You can look at moving to O365 and since you are a Non-profit, you may qualify for donated licenses from Microsoft. (Google Microsoft Non Profit). You can keep your Mimecast services which is recommended - works better than Microsoft Advanced Threat Protection.

Their credit program allows for use of Workdocs and Workmail which is the AWS flavour of online collaboration and exchange mail services.

The program supports local initiatives through https://www.techsoup.org/.

Basically, if you're doing good things then there is a lot in the program that would help you to do these things more efficiently / at little to no cost.
