Hi guys

I wanted to check or get get knowledge on hosting, I've seen there is Linux and Windows hosting.... what the major differences between the 2? which is the most used within the industry?

I'm lookin at doing a website for my small business but dont have all the necessary info on how exactly to go about it...

your input would be very much appreciated. :)

Hi

If you are looking for hosting options, I highly recommend Gridhost (http://www.gridhost.co.za).

I signed up with them last week and was up and running within a few minutes!
Their pricing is quite aggresive as I only pay R8 a month!

There is even an online "SiteBuilder" tool on their to use.

Some designers prefer Windows hosting for the Frontpage extensions and SQL database access, etc.
If you don't care about that Linux hosting should be perfect for you.

Cheers
Michael

I would recommend that you contact TRL Technologies. They host several websites for me and their service is always fast and efficient. They also give a 100% uptime guarantee. Visit their website: www.trltech.co.za

The difference between linux and windows hosting? Linux is cheaper, stabler and more secure. The windows hosting is for asp and .net online applications.

Linux hosting is much cheaper, and is perfect for Wordpress, Joomla, and other free CMS solutions.
Windows hosting is only required if you require a custom-developed website using Microsoft Technologies, like .Net Framework, ASP.Net, SQL Server, etc. So if you need really specific features, tailored to your business needs, then you would probably get a software/web developer to build a website for you according to your exact requirements.

In RSA, and probably all around the world too, Linux hosting is the most popular, especially for simpler websites, and websites based on off-the-shelf CMS templates.

Hi guys

thanks for the info, I will probably go linux as it makes sense. cheaper and more reliable plus it meets my requirements.

As other people said: biggest difference between Linux and ms hosting is the ability to run .ASP and to connect to Microsoft SQL Server.

If you don't know what that is, or if you don't care: stick with Linux
