Everyone using MS PC's on GPRS/EDGE/3G. Please do a patch update and anti-virus software update on your PC.

This WILL save you money as your PC generate A LOT of traffic on port TCP 445 and 135 - usually used by Microsoft for file sharing.

Hi,

TCP 135 is used by Microsoft Exchange and I found an intresting piece of ready talking port 135 being blocked on ISP's core.

Outlook contacts Exchange on TCP port 135. That is, of course, the same port that Blaster has lately been partying on with wild abandon. I'd also heard that some ISPs had begun blocking 135, on the grounds that it's more trouble than it's worth

Customers who use Microsoft Outlook to connect directly to a Microsoft Exchange server may no longer be able to connect when this port filter is applied. We recommend the use of a Virtual Private Network (VPN) to the company or group who operates the Exchange server. Please contact the network administrator or helpdesk for that company or group for additional details.

Dont quite get where this post is going. I sometimes use a gprs phone with my laptop, but that has a firewall runing all the time.

Connecting to an Exchange server via the net is silly anyway... It's soo slow... we would never do without a VPN unless the client is using the outlook web interface.

Thanks for the info though, I wasn't aware that ISP's were actively blocking it.

Hi Nosal,

Users are getting infected with viruses on a public domain, the virus generates plenty traffic to random IP's on TCP135/445 - looking for another no pathched machine. The traffic that it generates slows your own connection down dramtically and can cost your a packet.
