Apparently the theory is that a hot drink when it's hot raises your internal body temp slightly and your body then overcompensates opening peripheral blood vessels resulting in you cooling down faster. And vice versa with a cold drink.
Personally I think your body is too smart to be fooled like that and I absolutely cannot drink hot stuff when it's hot!!! When people offer me tea and it's above 30 degrees they soon get the hint that they're asking a stupid question.
