Hey fellow Mybroadband members.
The issue is as follows
I got a integrated data sim from Telkom and need to use the "TelkomInternet" APN for it work..however i figured let me use an iPhone 4 that i have lying around as a mobile hotspot for my other devices... if only it was that easy..
I get multiple messages from the iPhone from "Activate personal hotspot on your account, Contact TelkomSA for assistance"
And then it actually showing the option for Personal Hotspot in settings and allowing me to turn the hotspot on/off and i can actually see my Personal hotspot SSID on other devices it just refuses to connect plain and simple! tried a factory reset, tried changing the hotspot name and password nothing.
Now you might say the iPhone is broken but the most baffling thing happens...i take the Telkom Sim card out and put my primary Vodacom Simcard in.. and all of the sudden my hotspot works no problem at all!? connects to all my devices with the same Password and SSID i changed no settings except change the Sim card.
I do however see that when i put my Vodacom sim card in and go to "Cellular Data Network" a separate section appears to adjust the APN used for the Personal hotspot aswell but not with the Telkom simcard
once the Telkom Sim is inserted that disappears and i only get the option to Turn my Personal hotspot and change the Password.
Could the iPhones initial message about Personal hotspot not being enabled on the account be correct?
I have tried phoning Telkom Mobile and Telkom ADSL multiple times with them having no idea what a Personal hotspot even is on an iPhone or iPad.:wtf:
