House alarm systems, which one?

Moving into my own place end of the month, which doesn't have an alarm system, who would you guys recommend in Cape Town? And what are you guys currently paying?

I have a predator alarm system. Its a wireless system that can be connected to any control centre of a security company.
It's a third of the price and works well and also doesn't take all that long to set up yourself.
I spent about R5K to secure a 3 bed/2 bath house with door contacts, IR Sensors and the control panel so prices will vary depending on your needs.

The armed response companies will quote you rediculous prices for a system. I was quoted R17K.
 
Wanting to upgrade mine, but all the units look like tech from the 90's.
Does anyone know of any brands that offer a more technologically advanced systems (Camera feeds delivered to iPhone, check-in keypads for patrols, etc).
The Canary (http://canary.is) look great, but needs to integrate into a broader home security system

Where exactly in Cape Town as in your actual suburb as it makes a big difference who you use. I always recommend that you walk around your new neighbourhood and you make a note of all the companies monitoring the area then select the one with the biggest presence but first speak to at least 5-6 people who use that company.

For example I live in Somerset West where we have 3 top companies but in my suburb Bridgewater, the one company, Securite, has the most clients, fastest response and most vehicles in the area. Another suburb, Somerset Ridge, will have Vetus Schola, and then Helderzicht will make use of Gordons Bay Security.

I use to work in a alarm control room and seconds make a difference in an emergency.
 
Depending on where you are moving into there might be a local company that services the area and will give you a better and/or cheaper service or a discount in some form.

I recently found that out after ADT are ripping me a new one that the local guys are almost 1/3 of the price for armed response...and they are there anyway while I never ever see ADT any more.

If you decide to go with ADT (or any other company) then first speak to one of your immediate neighbours who use the company and nominate them as your reference. A lot of security companies will offer a free months monitoring to the person and it helps as a nice gesture from your side.
 
Check if there is a local security company with vehicles allocated to your suburb, they'll generally have much better response time than ADT.
 
And put the security gates and burglar bars in BEFORE you move in...trust me.

Best bet is to put them on the inside and then go those signs from the alarm company up outside as soon as possible (even if the alarm isn't fitted yet).

That way they won't try to break the door because they figure the alarm is on and they'll need to fight the security gates first.
 
I like paradox. They do have touch panels and access control but any cctv stuff would have to be a different system and manually integrated.
