Does anyone know if there is any active drive to get fiber to Hout Bay, is there any group that I can contact in regard to this?

Hout Bay representatives asked the Constantia Fibre Initiative for the website files we used to promote our rollout. Something is definitely happening... Check with your homeowners association.

Thanks jackshields,

will try to get hold of homeowners association

Also I found that DFA has laid fiber all the way down main road to the harbour.

To all hout bay residents if you are interested in fiber, please email your interest to [email protected]. Constantia fiber project showed interest in bringing fiber to hout bay.

Frogfoot are indeed rolling out to Hout Bay once Constantia is done. Construction should FINALLY begin in the next few weeks here.

Telkom at it currently installing fibre in similar way to constantia it seems.See them trenching on Valley Road Hout bay(near World of birds) but worth waiting for Frogfoot as much better deals.Telkom want 24 month contract so urge residents of Hout bay to be patient and wait for Frogfoot after they finished with Constantia

1. Yeah, same here. They are racing to get in quick. Hopefully people aren't foolish enough to sign up for those ball and chain contracts. However...

2. Word amongst the fibre gang here and Bishop's Court is that the contract obligation will be dropped fairly soon (hearsay, but I have reason to believe).

I've also heard from one of the regional fibre managers, that they looking at the feasibility of introducing another package too - which will be faster than 100mb speed. Not too sure if people are going to be willing to take it, as seeing the 100mb price is a long stretch already. Will most likely see price drops before this happens.

Well one thing telkom dont have in it favour other than 24 month contracts is their customer service.Hopefully the small fibre operators can use this to their advantage .As said many times before we would be much further back if it where not for the serious threat the competition poses to telkom by these vumatels, frogfoots etc.

Fibre... We ain't in America, yo.

www.constantiafibre.com

It's an older post but:
fiber
fiber
fiber

90% of all the inventions involving fiber were made by Americans/Germans (who also use American spelling). http://www.timbercon.com/history-of-fiber-optics/

Both are correct.

Is there anything happening in Hout Bay, or we just never getting fibre?

Telkom is rolling out in large sections there. http://www.telkom.co.za/coverage/ (northern/west side of the river)
