Rofl, so true :p

Moklet, yeah.... Don't fixed cost, you will get screwed... If you must put a "cap" on the number of hours before you start charging per hour.
ie. I think it will take 10 hours. I'll charge R2000. If it goes about 15 hours I'll charge R200/hr.

And that is why you bill per hour for changes (all things not listed in the original specifications).
So yes, this is so true it hurts. I hate dealing with clients :(

Brilliant link and absolutely true! I must admit that initial mock up looked really stunning.

I deal with this daily but with graphic design
I usually get caught up with a client like this when i do freelance. I think the problem starts with all the promises about what you will do and they get nothing short of turned on

Fact with deisgn, layout and colour is every one will have their own opinion but jeezus how hard is it to understand that a professional is clued up about what works , prinicples and elements of design, colour theory etc

How to be a graphic designer, without losing your soul

great book dealing mostly with how to deal with clients. Not exactly web design but same principles

i was about to post this link - beat me to it.
+1000.
the best skill you can learn is which client will let you do what you want and which client will interfere and creep on scope. i think the more you interact, the better you get at discerning this.
