How bad is Sinotec actually?

My fathers Sinotec that gets carted around to the coast and back still going strong after 3yrs , the Samsung we bought didn't even switch on when we got home, back to shops and bought Sinotec.

My current Samsung Series 6 has light bleeding on the edges and gets used 4hrs a night max, this after 2yrs.

My 40" LCD Sansui is also 8 years old and going strong. The only issue I have now is from time to time the remote doesn't want to work. I want to buy a Sansui again but now I am told that the quality of 8 years ago was way better than the quality of today. Don't know what to buy now.

There are two aspects for quality:

Picture quality
Longevity

Don't think anyone ever doubted longevity of cheaper brands.

having purchased this brand I have suffered the worst. So excited to get my first 55" plasma TV only to discover it cannot be repaired. Take care out there and stay with the brands that have a lot to lose.
You'll find that quite often the brand name models are so expensive to fix that they too effectively cannot be repaired. They also deliberately make it difficult to source components, because they're in the business of selling you a new TV.

That being said I would go with a name brand next time (Sony, Samsung, LG). They're just better overall and stand to lose a lot more than a company like Sinotech if they're unit's come out faulty and problematic.
Those big brand name companies actually don't particularly care as long as the product lasts long enough past the end of the short warranty they provide that they don't have to pay to fix it.

Fact is that the same is true of the supposedly premium brands.

Which TV do you have?

Does Sinotec still offer the 5 year warranty?

This trumps any additional viewing or sound quality that the senses may or may not pick up from a high end LG or Samsung.

Yep they still do - check the takealot link they posted above still states :

5 Year Warranty: All Sinotec panels are covered by our comprehensive 5 year warranty, giving peace of mind to the end user.

Which TV do you have?
Sony, JVC, LG, Samsung and Hisense. Of those Samsung is the one I'd definitely never buy again. Besides the durability issues their software is deficient and their response to reported issues is effectively to tell you to **ck off. Friends who own Samsung have had the same attitude from them.

The sinotec 43" FHD was on special for R3999 last week at makro and is currently on special for R4190 at Game. Strongly considering getting this at this stage.

Dropped off a TV in Midrand for repairs a few weeks ago.
They clearing quite a range of 50" to 65" repaired Smart tvs for R5k to R10k with 6 months 2guarantee.
so
I took one one 65" and its working brilliantly.

R3999 at Game this weekend. Its between this and a Hisense 40" for R4300. This TV will be used 95% for Xbox gaming.

Gave my old 42" Sinotec Plasma tv to my parents, still running 100% without any issues 10 years in.

I recently picked up a 55" Sinotec for R6K with the rudimentary 5 year guarantee.

I believe they do demos or repair 65" smart models for about R10k with a 6 months warranty.

In terms of resolution the comparison to Samsung or LG is so marginal you might as well go for product warranty as a deciding factor on what tv to get.

My trusty 7 years old 42'' LCD just gave in this week, HDMI ports and control unit dead. Can still switch it on with the power button and watch through the RCA ports (AV1 and AV2) and the aerial.
Can the HDMI ports and the control unit be fixed?
