I'm buying a friend a 50" TV at around the R7k mark, and since Android is seemingly limited to Sinotec and TCL, I'm wondering how bad Vidaa from Hisense/Toshiba actually is? Does it support the usual BritBox/Netflix/Showmax? And will it/these be updatable for years to come? I feel Android is a safer bet but better TV specs are perhaps more appealing.

VIDAA works fine on my Hisense 50” smart tv for netflix, dstv and amazon prime, but good luck trying to add a new app or side-load something like KODI, which will be relatively easily achievable on a native Android smart tv like Skyworth

The answer is it is really crap, the UI looks like 144p, you can’t download any apps, and the tv won’t get updates after a year or two. You get what you pay for. There are no shortcuts in life.

Only solution is to get an external media player along with the tv.

Trying to avoid a stand-alone TV box, so I guess Hisense and Toshiba are out. Pity.

He's just sour against Hisense, almost as if it's touched him in his sensitive place.
In all honesty it depends on the version, I've had 3 and the later one on the U7QF has been fine, the one on the N5000 was iffy, I'd imagine any of the entry levels not so good. I'd look at the Toshiba though it runs Android TV.

If you want Android, the Sinotecs aren't actually that bad, they also have HDMI2.1 features like ALLM and such, was pleasantly surprised by the 58" my wife got.

How are those? I got an AIM 43" and it's been okay, the 50" model hasn't been bad either nothing great.
I've had good experience with other Dixon products, small personal audio items, not familiar with the TVs though. It should be an option for OP to consider at least as he is not terribly brand conscience.

I really don’t know why you choose to turn a blind eye with hisense, is it maybe because you have never seen other TVs so you have nothing to compare them with? I am genuinely curious because in most threads you seem to defend hisense. Vidaa ui is blurry on every hisense or is yours as crisp as other OS ?

Cause I've had 3 and never experienced your issue and you harp on about a TV you don't even own. If you owned the C1 sure go for it, but you don't. I also think you need glasses as it's not blurry on every Hisense as each hisense has a different version and it looks different as well.
So how many Hisenses have you had besides one?

Yeah sure, I forgot people on this forum were only allowed to talk about the things they own, I guess you came up with that rule.

Anyways back to hisense, again you are simply not telling the truth by saying Vidaa is not blurry, that is the first thing I noticed when I got my hisense, the entry level Samsung I have has very crisp UI, A quick google search revealed that Vidaa is indeed blurry as I thought maybe there was something wrong with my tv, it doesn’t matter how many hisense TVs I have had besides one, I won’t be buying them ever again either way because I have learnt my lesson about trying to cut costs by buying cheap stuff.

I have a U8QF which is above your U7QF, so how come your tv is not blurry according to you yet everyone else who owns the same tv as you has blurry UI(Me included), I understand it maybe difficult for you to mention the faults of hisense because you own their products, but it is wrong to also come here and tell people hisense doesn’t have these faults when everyone else and not just me has stated that these faults do exist, Your hisense tv came from the exact same product line as our TVs so I wonder why yours seems to have zero faults. My U8QF which is a 2020 model also hasn’t gotten any updates in the last 6/8 months, I am sure you will claim your U7QF has gotten an update recently. Be honest about your reviews.

In other threads, but not over and over and over and over. You make it sound like the second coming but you don't even own one. Perhaps cause you were staring at the sun, perhaps you're biased who knows sunshine. But how about you don't comment on the Hisense stuff, or sell it and get a C1. If you do that then comment away, but frak I'm so tired of seeing your BS about the C1 being the second coming, I almost expect it to give me a handjob while watching it.

It’s a bit ironic because i keep steering the conversation towards hisense and I haven’t mentioned the C1 once in this thread, the only person talking about it is you right now. Hello time for some self introspection maybe?

Also why should I not comment on the hisense stuff when I own one? I am at least honest about telling people about its shortcomings unlike you who lies and acts like hisense has zero faults. I don’t think you have experience with other tv manufacturers, that is why you think so highly of hisense. If you got out more you would see there are better products out there.

Oh I don't like about Hisense not having faults, but the difference is I've had 3 different ones and can tell you the problems, you've had one. For the price now I'd rather get a Toshiba that is me personally, but the question was how bad is Vidaa and it depends on the model and your glasses strength I guess or how close you sit, perhaps it's blurry as you've not discovered the controls on the TV to change settings?
