My dad's asked me to record a recurring series for him that airs on SABC 2 at a specific time every day... He's too old to work VCR and to setup the scheduling etc (also he switches it off to save power and loses all the saved scheduling) etc... I'd prefer not to use VHS tapes...

I've been looking for a DVD Recorder (preferably LG so I can use the Simplink support) but no one sells them. Where can I get one?

The goal is to record the program every day and then write it as divX AVI files to a dvd that I can give him on the weekend...

I could use a tv tuner card but I don't really want to run my pc all day just for that - the dvd recorder also 'seems' kewler :p

HD PVR won't work - the interface is too complicated for him to use - he'll never stop calling me

You can set it up for him so that it records a series, the HD does have series recording I believe.

Where are you located?
I have a LG DVD Recorder that I will sell at a ridiculously cheap price.

What we normally do is set up the PVR to record anything we want, then at my leasure I can cut them to disc.

One word of warning regarding the LG.
It does not like playing non-original discs, no matter what format they are.
Samsung, Telefunken, anything else plays everything, except the LG.

it does have series based recording but doesn't work on some channels, but can set a time based recording so you will only have to set it once for him so he wont have to mess about :)

what program is it by the way
