You could set your ADSL mode to ADSL and not ADSL2/ADSL2+

What's your SNR BTW?

Modulation Type ADSL_G.dmt

Link Encapsulation Requested
Line Encoding DMT
Data Path L1
Interleave Depth
ATUR Vendor 5245544b
ATUR Country 181
ATUC Vendor 50000000
ATUC Country 181
Downstream Upstream
Current Rate(Kbps) 4096 512
Max Rate(Kbps) 10228 996
Noise Margin(dB) 15.6 12
Attenuation(dB) 39.5 22.5
Output Power(dBm) 7.5 6.5

i am in g.dmt
i can manualy set it to adsl or should telkom do that?

Attenuation = Distance of the telephone line between router and the exchange equipment. You can't substantially reduce attenuation without getting Telkom to shorten your telephone line

That is ADSL, so thats correct, your SNR is ok but it might suffer with 10Meg.

I found that wiring the cables in such a fashion helps to improve SNR.

The red lines indicate "turns" in the cable. You will see better results if your cable looks like this.

The green parallel lines and arrows indicate they must be bound quite closely.

the adsl line goes trough the adsl filter? cuz mine goes directly from the wall jack to the router

and i will try your trick, dont think my cable is long enoth for it
but wonder why its better if it turns :/

Well, we have phones in our house, sorry i didnt indicate the phone.

I think a standard cable is 1-1.5M long.

Also in my A+ ive been learning that twisted pair cables have better performance than non twisted pair (like we have currently) because it helps with interference. I still need to find RJ11 twisted pair.

Wait a sec, so disabling ADSL2+ will make my attenuation better?

G.Dmt Enabled
G.lite Enabled
T1.413 Enabled
ADSL2 Enabled
ADSL2+ Enabled
AnnexL Enabled
AnnexM Enabled

I sync at 2.8mbps. So which ones do I disable here to get that up and get my attenuation down?

just wondering

and i will try the twist thing
thax for all the help :)

Today it seems there isnt much of a difference

But you will see your sync change quite a lot compared to ADSL2+

Okay, let's try this.

Before:

ADSL Link Downstream Upstream
Connection Speed 2811 kbps 507 kbps
Line Attenuation 55.5 db 32.5 db
Noise Margin 6.8 db 11.6 db

After:

ADSL Link Downstream Upstream
Connection Speed 2912 kbps 512 kbps
Line Attenuation 54.5 db 31.5 db
Noise Margin 6.4 db 14.0 db

Any audible noise on your line?

I don't use the landline so wouldn't know. Last time the Telkom techie was here there was none. I'm being upgraded to a new IMAX just down the road from me though, which I believe will solve the attenuation and SNR, at which point I should be able to connect at 10mbps. Or so I've been lead to believe.

I am downloading at 300KBps now, which I'd never achieved before, so there's been a small increase in speed. Thank you...

Also before you get yourself a 10meg line, i would ask Telkom ZA for 10Meg Restricted test account (meaning you can only visit SAIX.co.za and run a speedtest on that page and ofcourse to see your SRN and Att) at that sync.

Will do, thanks. During the upgrade process I should be able to tell roughly based on the stats whether I should bother with it, but that's a good idea. I've just never received a reply to my messages to TelkomZA, so I don't even bother anymore...
