I have been searching and downloading stuff for dfu mode and non seem to work in windows 7 64 bit.
I tried the button thing and the 10second stuff to no avail ,the ipod just goes into recovery mode and this is frustrating.
I downloaded ziphone and tinyumbrella..etc and non of these things helped.
I even modified the firmware and this to never worked.

What happened was that i erased the ipod and its settings from the settings menu(had to put in a code for this)The ipod took a hour to erase the os and all settings and when it restarted there was just a apple logo that goes away and comes back again in a loop. Also the battery icon stays on red....it charges a bit and then the loop starts over again.

I tried the recovery thing with shift and tries loading the 3.1.2 firmware but i get a 3194 error:mad:.I read up about this error and uninstalled my antivirus/set firewalls and did k@k stuff to windows and all this is not helping.

What i really need to know is can my 2g device go into dfu mode and downgrade my firmware.
Reasons for this is that apple checks the file and gives me error.i need to bypass apple server with some form of software,i need to restore this ipod please .
Help me overcome this dfu k@K.:(

OK. you erased all settings, which wipes the OS on the phone as well, causing the endless loop. A few questions:

Why do you want to go to 3.1.2 and not 3.1.3 rather?
Were you jailbroken on 3.1.2 and did you have Cydia and click the "make my life easier" button at the top in the past? (which saves SHSH blobs on Cydia server allowing you to downgrade)

For DFU mode: Here are some good instructions.

http://www.iclarified.com/entry/index.php?enid=1034

Count to ten in your head and release after 10 seconds exactly.

It was jailbroken in 3.1.2.The problem is i never used that function in cydia making it more k@K :D fo me.
i am busy downloading 3.1.3 from itunes now, lets hope this works on the ipod.I am having a real tough time here .I even downloaded a video to to do the timing right for the 10sec thing but before 10 second the ipod goes into recovery mode ...damn @#%%$

Unplug it from the PC when you do the DFU mode thing. And follow instructions and it should just work. However, if you say you didn't back up the SHSH blobs in Cydia, then I think you won't be able to downgrade..

BUT.. since it's a 2G i seem to remember the firmware checks being different than the 3G/3GS/4.. so if you really want to downgrade i can find out for you.. it probably is possible.. but I see no reason to go back to 3.1.2 when 3.1.3 is out and jailbreakable.

Since 3.1.3 is the latest firmware, you won't have any problems restoring to that.

Use a download manager with resume support. and read post above. no point in downgrading. even if you downgrade, you will need 3.1.2 firmware.

Thanks will download the 3.1.3 again from apple server and see what happens.I am a bit worried that my battery is on the red all the time.

Hmm. Make sure push is off in Settings, Mail, Fetch Data.

And then in Advanced, for each mailbox also check that they are set on Manual and not Fetch.

Also, check brightness is not on max as that tends to drain battery unneccaserily.

I had the same issue when restoring an older firmware version on my iphone and I eventually used an application called "ireb" and that allowed me to restore without the error message. Google "ireb download" and find the latest version. I believe that this tricks itunes into restoring firmware regardless of error messages. You also have another option and that is to use redsn0w 0.9, that will obviously result in a newly jailbroken ipod, which is a good thing, but the plus is that redsn0w does the restore from the *.ipsw file that you have downloaded without using itunes at all. It also gives you on screen instruction on how to get into DFU mode, (shows you timers of when to hold which buttons) Remember that if you release the button combos too early or too late it will just reboot the device. One more thing remember that the device has to plugged in to the USB cable AND switched off at the same time before you start the DFU mode combo.

Hope this helped.

The firmware is not installed.I am getting network error. What i do have is the 3.1.2 file on my pc.It looks like dfu mode is the only solution now.

Use iclarified.com best site for iPhone jailbreaks and ipods etc

Yes i do have the latest. What i dont understand is most of the flippin software out there like tinyumbrella and ziphone, irecovery all oth these have a problem running in 64 bit.
For the umbrella program i had to download certain files just for it to work in 64 bit ..........and still it worked half azzed.Java error and other k@K things.

MY ipod just wont turn on now anymore. It screen black like night and my face red as anger:D.

Going to leave it connected to the pc for 12 hours and see if there will be any signs of a battery indicator come up.
In all honesty,if its not turning on i will be asking my 5 year old to destroy it..seriaaaazzz

mutha f%^$&&# this thing just wont turn on .I tried a new cable and there is nuttin. Is it really worth it to repair it by installing a new battery.
