How can I trace a phone number??

I really need some info here.

Long story short. Someone I know is receiving sms's from a number. The messages is getting more personal by the day and her daughters life has also been threatened in the sms's.

What can we do to find out who is sending this messages?

Any help would be appreciated.

Been to the police and it doesn't look like they are going to help us.

File a charge at the police station, insist on this, and get a case number.
Then go to your cellphone service provider and give them the details.
