Hi there.

ADSL with Netgear DG834G Router; 4096 kbps Downstream and 384 kbps Upstream (according to connection status). Situated at Glentana, George, next to the sea.

Current Status
Line Attenuation 45 db (downstream) 13 db (upstream)
Noise Margin 11 db (downstream) 13 db (upstream)

Short history
Connection always intermittently on & off.

Had the guy from Telkom here and he suggested that it is the router and said that if the phone is working, the ADSL should also be up. Duxbury was very supportive and replaced the router with a brand new one. The speeds was up a bit, but still intermittent connections.

Last weekend my ADSL died, but the phone worked fine. I phoned Telkom and the following working day a tech guy replaced a corroded connection on the pole. He tested the line all the way to the exchange and gave his OK. There is no noice on the line and crystal clear.

The past couple of days the intermettent connection popped up again. I'm in 2 minds whether it is the line again or the router.

How can I "troubleshoot" the router to rule it in or out as possible cause? I need the connection 24/7 as I am connected via VPN to our Jo'burg office.

I have just tried the test file download from Telkom and could only manage anything between 40-50 kbs compared to the 400+ our Jo'burg office gets.

Please help me out here. This on/off is very frustrating.

Regards,
deon
