How can i use ADSL2+ and not ADSL

how can i use adsl2+ and not adsl 1?

i set it in my router but it wont connect any help?
 
You do know that ADSL2+ is used for 24Mb/s download speed, right?

And it wont sync if your exchange doent support ADSL2+. Keep it on ADSL not ADSL2
 
i upgraded to 10mbps but i sync on 6mbps

If you raise your sync speed then our SNR will drop lower. You are already at 12.8db, increasing to 8mbps will probably see your SNR drop below 10db, which is not good at all.
An SNR below 10db will result in an unstable line and frequent disconnects.
I think 6mbps might be the most stable sync speed you can attain.

Besides moving closer to your exchange I dont think its possible to improve your SNR.

I have friends that have tried numerous fixes like new pots filters, new telephone cabling, even turning off their alarm systems and electric fencing with no improvement in their SNR.

Your OP states that you are on ADSL1, if/when your exchange is upgraded to VDSL you should then see a marked improvement on your SNR.

My line syncs at 4Mb with an Attentuation of 6.5 and SNR of 13. So I am kinda stuck at 4Mb, any higher will leave me with frequent disconnects. My attentuation is great but my SNR is letting me down :'(
 
just a quick question,if my exchange can support adsl2 will it connect on it,or do i have to ask telkom to put me on adsl2?
anywas i will phone them tommorrow and ask for 8mbps maby i am luckey and it all runs good if not it really sucks...

and one more thing, will my sync automatically go higher if it can,or do i have to ask telkom to do it?

Your modem will automatically select the correct ADSL modulation mode without you having to do anything. If your exchange is ADSL2+ ready then your router stats will show ADSL2+ and not ADSLg.dmt (ADSL1 as you put it).
If Telkom sets your line speed higher and it becomes unstable, it will keep lowering until the connection becomes stable (I could be wrong but thats what I have read on myBB)

Can I ask how did you get Telkom to sync your line higher than 4mb? I'm on the old 4/10mb profile and when I called Telkom and asked to increase my line speed they said my exchange only supports 4mb and refused to do it.
Your exchange is ADSLg.dmt same as mine, please share your trick. I could always use a little extra line speed :D
 
on the adsl checker it said max in my aria 4mbps
till last month
i saw it said max 10mbps i was like YAY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!


then i phoned them and ask to bump me to 10mbps
but like u say 6mbps is the most stable i can get :(

so they put me on it.ur still on the 4/10mbps one?
if so downgrade to the normal 4mbps one for 299pm

just ask for a bump ;) thats all i did

well u think its worth calling telkom to test out 8mbps?
maby it wont be bad :P

I too called after I noticed the ADSL checker says my area supports 10mb now.

I'm gonna give them a call tomorrow and ask for a "bump" too.

I'm on the 4/10mbps profile still, paying R425 less 25% (R318)
I was thinking of asking to be dropped to just 4mbps @ R299 but changed my mind.
I'm too scared Telkom will stuff it up, so I just left it as my exchange is supposed to upgraded by end of March 2014.

I say call them and see if they can get you syncing at 8mbps.

I hope I can sync at 6mbps, I cant wait to call them tomorrow and try.
You, like the ADSL checker, have given me hope kind sir. Lets hope this time it dont end in tears :p

i want 8mbps but it may be unstable and wiht my trendnet router ists allready a pain in the ass

so unstable line+ trendet + telkom = pure hell

Thanks, I'll be grateful to get anything higher than the 4mb I'm currently getting.

I'll post my results here tomorrow #AMPT :D
 
1. Sometimes Telkom will tell you your line only supports 4meg even if your stats are good due to over subscribed exchanges.
2. If your router doesn't connect at adsl2+ it means your exchange doesn't support it. Adsl2+ is actually more forgiving of a crappy line.
3. While adsl d.Gmt supports up to 8 technically. Telkom only allows it to use up to 6meg in SA.
 
so, wile i can support it (8mbps) telkom wont allow me to get 8mbps cuz i am stuck on adsl1?

so its useless to hold for a houre? to try to get 8mbps

anyways what do u think of the tp link 8970?

is it worth gettign that over the trendnet 658 i got now?

will i get better stats?
and more stability,cuz trendnet is k@k
