How can xbox or ps3 be better then pC?

Ya look, I took great strain getting used to the controller, but eventually you do get comfortable with it. I would still definately say I'd perform better with kyb/mse, that punk boss at the end of GoW (RAAM) cause me some serious frustration. I think he would have been a bit more of a breeze with kyd/mse, but that aside it is a brill game.

I have been a die-hard PC gamer since the days of Castle Wolfenstein and briefly dabbled in the console world with a PS1 to play Final Fantasy and Parasite Eve which I bith sold after finding the slow loading times and fuzzy TV output to be rather crap.

Now have an Xbox360 and I am now sold on the concept of gaming on consoles.

No doubt about that but how many gamers are lucky enough to own them ???.
Hence why PC games are developed for the lowest common denominator of graphics standards to at least allow them to be sold.

Meanwhile EVERY Xbox360 owner (10 million of them) on this planet has the SAME ATI chip which blows a 7800GT away ... now which system do you think will games use to it fullest capability ???.

It ain't going to be the 1% of 8800 owners but then you can slobber over those impressive 3DMark scores :D.

Eh? :confused:

You DO know that PC games usually have adjustable detail settings so that the game will run on the lowest common denominator system as well taking full advantage of newer hardware, right?

Indeed. Developers receive their dev consoles from the manufacturer which are used to run the game engine. Physical coding and game resources such as models/2d elements/maps/etc are made on a PC/Mac.

Cost of an 8800 vs. cost of a 360? And purely for graphics?

I've always said that each platform has it's place in the market. If one prefers to sit by themselves at a desk, or carry their entire rig to a lan, well that's entirely their own choice. If one prefers to have a few mates over and socialise by making use of a single box, well that's their decision too :) Off course the best solution would be to own both.

Specs aside, I've always said its about the content. Both platforms have some decent exclusives coming ...

PC
- Crysis (sure it will still be awesome on DX9)
- Supreme Commander (Total Annihilation was great)

XBOX360
- Halo3
- HL2 Orange Box (not exclusive, but great value bundle; HL2+Ep1+Ep2)

So yeh depending on the games you like, having both is the only way to play all the 'best of the best'.

So tell me why don't any PC game that is running on top end hardware have the same awesome visuals like the NVidia/ATi tech demos i.e "Ruby" and "Nula" ???.

There is a big diff in developing a game for a spesific game console compared to a generic DirectX/OpenGL game that must scale from Billy Bob's little 2Ghz AMD Semprom with his 128MB FX5200 to Overclocker dude's Core 2Duo 8800GTS gaming rig.

as much as i love pc's, i hate the fact that i could buy two xbox 360's instead of one 8800 gtx

You code the game on your PC and use a cross compiler to generate suitable executable code for the gaming console which in our case would be PowerPC.

You then inject this compiled code and required game assets via the LAN into your dev kit which will then run the result ... you can debug/trace the code from the PC.

Microsoft has recently released Visual Studio XNA Express for hobbyists which allows anybody to write code for the Xbox360 if you pay a $99 fee per year for their creators club.

You code using C# and .NET in their XNA framerwork so that the same game executable can run on the PC as it runs on the Xbox.

Pretty impressive.

XNA does look pretty interesting and a little more suitable for someone like me who lacks coding experience (as far as games go).

I'm considering taking the resources from a mod that i'm a member of and taking it to XNA to see what i can pull off. Unfortunately the coders on the mod itself are useless and lazy.

If this was an arguement over what was the most cost effective then the xbox would win but the original poster asked which is better the pc ,xbox or ps3.

On that question there's no doudt a high end pc will beat the xbox. And Very soon the mid range g80 parts will probaly do the same.

But like I said before it's personal preference. I will always pick a pc before a console. I just like my pc way more. And I am prepared to pay the extra cash needed to have a high end rig cause at the end of the day I believe the joy it gives me warrants the financial sacrafice.

Obviously. But that will always subjective. When looking at the hardware specifications the high end pc will win out. After that it depends what games and input devices you like.
 
High end pc wins ITO graphics only. Everything else is up for debate. If anyone considers graphics to be the most important factor then they don't know much about what gaming is supposed to be about
 
At the end of the day it's different strokes for different folks.

Otherwise we'd all be driving corolla's and drinking coke.

The important thing is to find the platform(s) that you enjoy the most. The question of "why XXX over YYY" is not about which is better, but which suits you better.

and as an aside, yes, you could have an Xbox 360 LAN with 2500 people if you wanted to.
 
Add to which PC game graphics Can be better but consoles by and large are better because there is no variance between games.
PC titles are hardware Dependant as a 6300LE is not going to play the game at the same visual quality as a 8800GTX.

You can't use one game like Crysis to say PC graphics care better, because for every super looking game on the PC there are 10 on the console, which may not be up to the same level as Crysis at it's best but are good enough to enable one to make a statement that claims console graphics care better.

but if money aint an object....well the PC will provide better sound, graphics and speed if you have the latest and greatest hardware.
