How did the get into the iPhone?

My sister recently lost her iPhone 5s in a supermarket. Her husband received a call from the management shortly after that, telling him that the handset is at the customer services desk. Now my question is, since the phone has a lock code that activates after a minute, how did the manage to get a phone number off the phone? My guess is that the removed the simcard, retrieved the phone numbers and just happened to phone her husband first. That means her simcard doesn't have a lock code on and that the phone number must've been saved to the simcard in the first place. Any other conspiracy theories?

Yup, that's what I would've done.

Remove the SIM, put it in another phone, and see if it is not locked.

Hence why I tend to put a SIM PIN on contract SIM's ... too easy to remove and insert in another device in order to use up airtime/data....

If he's listed as her medical contact on her medical ID that information is available from the lock screen.

Mmm.., interesting - didn't know that one! I'll have to check if she's got that set up. Coincidentally, my nieces iPhone 6s was grabbed out of her car just yesterday. I immediately went into iCloud to trace and erase the phone but it never connected to the Internet. Even so, the thieves used her simcard, obviously like Librarian said, removing the simcard and using it in another phone. I'm just wondering, if you put a pin on your card, and leave the one on the phone to protect your personal info, then you have to enter two pins to unlock. Bit of a schlep? Good motivation to get a phone with biometric identification like the Lumia 950 :whistling:

Sorry to hear your niece's phone got snatched.

If you have a sim pin enabled you only need to enter it when you either put the sim in a new phone or when the phone is restarted.

The iPhone 6s has biometric ID in the form of TouchID.

You could also ask Siri who the phone belongs to.

Yup, because Apple put airplane mode on the control center. Most people leave it enabled when the phone is locked, so for a thief it's an easy way to just swipe up and disable internet and other radios.

And don't think that they don't know that, as the phones get stolen usually for parts.

This is the annoyance Apple needs to fix. To me it's a security issue if you can disable the phone coms without passcode/unlocking

Obviously most iPhone users are in first world countries where crime is less of an issue.

The fingerprint sensor on the 6s is so fast that I don't (can't) even use the Lock Screen Control Centre anymore.

I've jailbroken mine, so I can customize the control center. I still want to access the options while the phone is locked, without having to unlock it. So for me I have bluetooth, VPN, wifi, LTE and Personal Hotspot as options.

Aaah this thread screams of so much ignorance and inexperience.

Always love (hate) when people automatically suspect Apple must have done something wrong because they themselves don't know any better.

Its the default defence in most situations. Always someone else's fault.

What are you on about? No one said Apple did anything wrong, they were asking how they got the number.
