How do blind people vote?

Thanks - was curious abt how publicly avaiable braille ballot papers would be

They did not do any braille votes today at our voting station it seems, as those were only handled yesterday afaik. Some people choose to rather vote as normal and do get to vote today using normal parer ballots. People we know at the stationed handled a few cases today. It is not just those that are blind, but they had a case of someone that cannot write, another that got weak eyesight etc etc. Usually the person will come in, a family member and an officer at the station will accompany them. Family member/friend will ask the person for whom they want to vote, the officer will then double check that the paper get marked by the friend as per the persons choice. Quick and easy.

There were supposed to be braille sheets at every voting station.

Usual incompetence prevailed and blind peoples right to a secret ballot was flushed down the toilet.

Just got word from a blind friend of ours, she got a braille ballot at another voting station! She was quite impressed with the layout and is happy she got to vote on election day.

It's not really a braille ballot paper. They use the normal ballot paper and simply put a braille sheet on top of it, so the blind person can read it.

Tehcnical, I know, but it's just for the record.

saves on printing costs.
instead of 1000s of braille ballots they
can have 1/2 braille stencils at each polling station.

Its also a problem for illiterate people, sometimes.

As for blind people, an IEC representative and two party representatives will join the blind person and assist them in selecting the correct party. In an instance yesterday the IEC allowed a husband to assist his blind wife; now I know that he could influence her vote - but she obviously has had to place a lot of trust in him over the years and I don't see how this is much different.
