Topic says it all... I can't google for it now because I'm at work and need to focus here, so anyone with experience or know-how or friends that has done this please let me know.

Thinking of doing myself a favor and change my career path to a fitness trainer (and in the same breath shake my weight problem as well)

I had a personal trainer for a while but he was too darn expensive, so now I just follow the programme he worked out for me. He was actually a Puerto Rican dance instructor who came to SA (fell in love with a local girl) and worked as personal trainer just to keep the pot cooking.

This guy's body was hectic - only years of dance can give you that look! I am not sure how you would fare as a trainer if you yourself are a tad overweight? Surely your students would expect you to be in shape - practice what you preach, etc.

I love my job. I mean when I go home when I get bored I do my job. It's what I do. It's my hobby. However, having made my hobby my job is an empty victory.

Sure I love what I do.I'm good at it, but I let it become who I am. It's taken over my life to the point where it's not satisfying anymore and it's a constant battle to keep clients happy rather than focus on what I really love.

blunomore hunny, I know exactly what you mean, but I imagine on my way to becoming a personal trainer I'd have to train myself? So that would knock me back into shape. YES I SAID BACK INTO. I only became fat when I started in I.T, and I figured I'd have a lot more flexibility and time to do the things I want.

Plus, working out daily means I have less chance to get cancer.... :(

You miss the point.

Maybe stick to cabin boy, errr, I mean cruise ship attendant :D

And FYI i have seen more than enough personal trainers that aren't built like a brick sh1thouse...and a fair amount of the female personal trainers have very average bodies at best. That does not detract from the fact that they may indeed be excellent PT's.
Acid just keep in mind that it can be a very hectic industry as well. But if you wanna do it then go for it!

I will be the master of my own destiny then. If I worked 15 hours a day and get paid for 15 hours a day, and if a client skips a session get an hour off but paid for it anyway (they pay for my time and it should motivate them to not skip a session)

Then why not. I'm very motivating when I get the chance and PT has always appealled to me as a profession. Just never had the inclination to follow through as my love for IT outweighed it.

I'd rather clean toilets and do what I love when I want to, than have to do what I love because I HAVE to.

I completely understand. Most VA's just take a certain amount of money for the month beforehand for you to have the privilege of working there eg. you pay them R6000 per month to be able to work there as a PT.(if i remember correctly) and whatever you make on top of that is yours.

No-one spoke of size or muscles, but general appearance and fitness. I have never seen an overweight PT.

Which is why it is a brilliant idea for Acid to KEEP his job, train in the meantime, lose weight and when he is ready and looking the part, he can go for the new job.

I know you didn't, i was just commenting on the general appearance of some PT's. And i have seen a few slightly overweight PT's. Mostly older ones though but overweight nevertheless.

its not like i can quit my job now and just do pt. Im suppose to study first? Get certified or something? And by the time i am i have the appearance already
