I contacted OpenWeb last week asking them to cancel my one ADSL account.
First they wanted the name on the registered card, which I supplied.

Then they wanted the card number of which I supplied the last 4 digits as any other company would want.

Now I get a message back that they need the first 12 digits before they can cancel an account??
Hopefully after posting on here someone will get back to me....

How pathetic is this company????

P.S. I cant phone them as I am in the UK (unless someone can supply me with a proper landline number and not a 086 number)

So its a good idea to send your credit card number unencrypted over the internet? Not every merchant checks CVV numbers, and guessing an expiry date? (12 Months X 3 Years) 36 combinations? I believe Jeremy Clarkson found himself donating to charity due to a similar SNAFU. As for SA payment processors such as Paygate? It gets ignored by most international payment gateways. (My own monthly donation to MSF still gets debited to my credit card - even after getting a new card with a new expiry date and CVV number)

EttieneM: +27315632022 was listed on UniForum so give it a try. You can also ask your credit card company to reverse the charges if they don't want to abide by your request.

Pray.

They billed me for 3 months after i cancelled 30 days in advance. Every time i called, they told me they didn't receive my cancellation email. I send it again, talk to a consultant there, they confirm it was received and the next month the same story. Never, ever again.

nice thing with the banks in the UK is they will just keep on reversing the charge after you give them proof that you cancelled... So good luck to them getting more money out of me
