how do i change MTU on windows vista?

yeah also gave a look. apparently windows vista does this automatically.

was just wondering... vista speeds have been good on iburst so doubt it is mtu... but you never know

I thought i made a thread about this a while ago.. maybe I just planned to and forgot :/

You can't use any of the normal programs as with XP, unless they have been updated. There is a program called Vista Manger which is like Tweak XP for Vista, and it allows MTU changes. I'm actually wondering just how good that app is though.. it seems like most of the stuff was just ported directly from XP so I'm not sure if it even works.

They do have a option though.. the RWIN values you definitely cannot change due to Vista dynamic way of dealing with it.. or something like that.

yeah i seldom have problems with iburst except early this week. as for MSN i am not sure if the problem is iburst side or the other contacts side.

Hi, I use a program called Dr.TCP (which is normally on the iBurst Install Disk under extras)

I can mail you a manual that I've sent someone just yesterday.

Although the screenshots is in XP, the settings is the same for Vista

Dr TCP probably won't work properly on Vista EVEN *if* the registry entries it needs to modify are mostly the same (which I am not sure if they are) as Dr TCP (being an older app - unless there is some new version I don't know about) won't set Vista to persistently use the MTU you set with it and thus it will probably change due to auto-tuning in next to no time at all.

Your best bet is using the netsh technique abb linked to, used it personally in the past and it's never given me a problem.

You can switch off the automatic adjustment via the command-line. Did that a few months ago while troubleshooting something else.

I don't see any benefit in changing the MTU though....Vista is said to do a pretty good job with the auto-adj.
