How do I die less?

yeah, KB for choppers...

I prefer flying choppers with WASD for throttle/turn and up/down/left/right for tilt and pitch. I dont touch the mouse... alot more stability that way I find.

Killa is right about testing out all the kits. When I started I played almost exclusively AT, and ignored the advice of spreading out my kit time. Learn them all, and how to play them..

yeh, play around with kits and see what you enjoy... try to get your basic badge for each kit just to get the hang of it. *you'll grow addicted to the drumroll when you get awards*

I spread my classes pretty evenly to experience different sides of the game.

If you want to learn how to use weapons/classes properly:

the medic man = maximus
the AT man = BFC killa
the Arty Party Commander tannie = Niteshade
the knife man man = machineboyyy
the pistol champ = xxx-sss
C4: kamikazi buggies/ jihad jeeps = FlatspinZA

Either way, to have some fun, whenever you see a kit on the floor (dufflebag) , run over it and press G... this will make you swap kit - and almost always you'll pick up a better gun (unlock) ... and so you'll be inspired to play better and not die :p

Just do yourself a favour and learn this mantra off by heart:

'If I am stuck in one flag and it's the only one left, I will make every effort to break out and cap another flag back, I will not sit and try to snipe the entire other team and get pwnd in the process, I will break out'

Stick with okes (you can spawn on a squad leader *green dot* instead of spawning at a flag each time) ... even if you dont shoot a leaf, run with the guys and learn the ins and outs of the maps. I suggest you stick with urban2 (196.4.79.28) for a while since there are only 4 rotating maps and NO jets.

Once you know where youre going its much simpler to know what to actually do. (I feel the same noobism all over when I play Special Forces, coz i dont know the maps)

If you squad up with a guy called =BFB=U2M, don't worry if he swears at you, he even swears at me, his illustrious commander :D

I'm =BFB=chuckstar_za BTW.. If you ever find yourself as a SL and I'm commanding you'll know.. I tend to get shouty and go "****ing, **** chop get the ******* flag you **** bollock knob *****!@! Please, if you'd be so kind!' lol

Killadoob is, BFC Killa, watch out for his AT rockets.. :)

The one person you probably shouldnt squad with if you have sensitive ears is |WrG| Askari ... that boy swears like a sailor but we love him to bits!

And ye, watch out for Killa's rockets... he's a sneaky puffadder.

If you see me online, you're welcome to join my squad to learn some of the ropes. It's always polite to ask if you can join a squad and not talk too much (or start singing - guilty as charged).

I'm normally on after 10pm weekdays and until about 5am on saturdays etc. Just keep a lookout for |WrG| Yomah_Sahara :)

- lastly, play alot of single player and try own the bots ... this wont help much when playing online, but at least you'll get to know the guns. :D

hi people, i know this is a bit off-topic, but what headset would you guys suggest for bf2?

The logitech range is probably the best to go for. I bought a R80 el-cheapo and it works fine, but won't last forever. I run off the mobo soundcard so the sound i hear is pretty stock standard.

If you have a better soundcard its obviously worth your while getting a proper set.

I wouldnt spend more than R400-500 on a set though - mainly because of the abuse it suffers when being carted around to LAN's and general falling off table etc.

the Arty Party Commander tannie = Niteshade

I'm hurt you didn't say me, but maybe Niteshades voice swung the vote for you :D

As far as a headset goes, I used a POS set which came with a 36k modem(!) for most of my career. Ask the guys who were at NTT/Rage about the l33tn33s that was my headset!

naaa chucky u know your one of the best comms around man :)

some of your arty drops astound me and frustrate me haha

i bought the creative hs600 for 350 best set of headphones i have ever owned

Some of them frustrate me too! Especially when a large clumped squad is moving right into your RT and then some friendly distracts them and they stop just outside the blast radius! :(

It's a shame most commanders are reactive, rather than proactive with RT as it's a devastating tool when used correctly..

Kekeke, Sorry chuckstar.... we still love you d00der. I can't say it was the voice coz I keep getting introduced to the business end of niteshade's arties...and somehow Stingray's as well...

It's gotten so bad that I've created my own superhero called " UAV-man ". Protector of unscanned territories and lesser spotted meccies.

:D

Holy crap! Were you at Lake and got chucked all the way to Fountain?

My best is dropping an enemy squad a buggy so they all run to it, after launching RT on that position and seeing them all die a horrible death :D

It sure is!

I've been playing bf2 on wireless for the last year and a bit and until this weekend i've suffered freeze lag literally every 30 seconds for the last 6-months, caused by routing problems and whatnot. So the game would run fine and then just freeze at the best of times. which sometimes makes you see weird things. not to mention enabling you to play using bullet time!

so yar, I've been limited to playing commander lately or suffer lagging at the worst of times.

So I'm busy chasing my distinguished service medal... I just need another 36hrs of comms to get it :( At least I have fun pwning RocketBoy on just about every arty strike I fling their way. :D

So seriously people, when I said I was new to this game I meant it.

'Shoot people in the head!', is the sort of advice I was looking for. Why did no-one tell me about hit boxes?

You need to understand that I grew up with Doom where hitting anywhere within 5 pixels of the pink blob was enough to kill him ;-)

'Shoot people in the head, not in the leg' would be good advice for the next person who asks for some help.

K,

Shoot the people in the head :D

In all seriousness:

Go prone if at distance, gives you more control.
Single shot at distance (you can switch btwn burst/singleshot by pressing the same key twice 'i.e press '3' twice to have single shot main weapon), will give you more accuracy.
Don't go prone in CQC, basically you'll lie still while the other guy kills you :D
Hit boxes tend to lag slightly behind when running parallel to you.
Blast damage on tank shells/APC rounds/MEC chopper WILL kill you, so don't park off with a nice wall or something behind you when hiding from the above.

You will find that a PKM, standing up at point blank will hit nothing, but a single shot AK101 at distance will nail you from the next server :D

Look out for chuck (me), squad up if I'm not playing commander and I'll help you out, but I must warn you, I do die a lot, but I also make many kills, so it kind of balances out..

Also... the foot.. for some strange reason when you snipe someone in the foot they die... or they used to.
