How do I do a VPN?

Can't search for vpn threads since vpn is too short a word to search

Anyway, so say I now have some VPN software. I forgot the name of the one I downloaded. How do I connect to a friend or friends?

What IP address do I use and where do I get it?

Any help will be greatly appreciated.

What are you and your friend using to connect to the internet ? ADSL ? I assume that you want to create a VPN through the internet.What OS are you two using ?

Use your network connection wizard to connect to an office network. There should be a VPN option there.

-Create a new connection
-Connect to a workplace (VPN option)

Get the "server" side to run dyndns.

it's not easy, but not that difficult either. your ADSL router should allow you to set up a dyndns or similar account, that automatically updates your dns records so that the domain name points to your IP address.

If you wanna know the IP you wanna connect to... get the "server" side to visit this page:

Though setting up the details in the router or running the dyndns client on the server should get a full time setup going.
