Hi. What steps would I take to get my own website with a personal domain named?

I have been reading about registering domain name and about web hosting but cannot understand how they come together. Then there's also designing the website and read about various website designing tools.

I am confused so can anyone help? My qualifications are not in IT.

Go to Hetzner.co.za.
Sign up for a micro account specifying your chosen domain name.
Then learn how to create and edit web pages - vast resources on the web.

There are zillions of other options. But for someone starting out fresh it's not a bad place to start.

Later on, when you've mastered the basics, you can move to a hosting provider that suits you better.

Registering your domain name only says "hey, this domain name exists" to the internet
Then on your domain name server your domain name points to, says "hey, the IP address of this domain is xyz"
The IP address is like your home address/postal code. It points to a "house" (the hosting)
On your hosting, your web page will then be given to the person who is visiting your domain.

sounds complicated, but it's not.

Also, start with wordpress, most providers give you the option to try.

I will not start with Hetzner, I'd rather go with elitehost.co.za, the guys are friendly enough to help a "n00b" and explain a few things, even help you setup everything so you don't get entrenched in learning a crap ton of stuff that you don't need to just yet (or at all)

If you are a total newcomer to hosting, domain registration and website development - then this is not possible for you to do. Best to do is to invest some money in a developer who could guide you from step 1 right through to launching your website.

The alternative is that you study up on all of this, but you will not be able to do this within the next 1-2 years as it takes a lot of time to learn everything.
