I'm on a trial 8Mbps gold account from Openweb. Here are my line stats:

This suggests to me that I should be getting the full 8Mbps. Speedtest only measures 4Mbps.

No that says your sync stats is good enough to sync at 10Mbps, however you current sync rate is 4Mbps. So the speedtest is very accurate, your line runs at 4Mbps even though you have a 8Mbps account.

Also going by your sync rate of 4096/512 instead of ~4006/508 you are on an older DSLAM which doesn't support ADSL2+ which is probably the reason why you are still on 4Mbps.

Thanks. I suspected it's something like that. So I should head to Telkom and downgrade to the "faster" line option and then just sign up for a 4Mbps account? Is there a way of changing DSLAMs? I am in Somerset West... I would think that this would be one of the first areas to be upgraded?

Downgrading to save money is probably the best route to follow right now.

As for asking Telkom to chance you to a different DSLAM, easier said than done. You should call Telkom or follow up with TelkomZA via PM here on MyBB (he takes a few days to reply though), and find out if they can up your line speed to 10Mbit if that is what you want.
