A few weeks ago my ISDN line was struck by lightning, lost my TA, switch, and network terminator...

So now I'm back from holiday, grandfather said we can get iBurst.

Thing is we gotta pay bills and etc.. so we need it yesterday. What's the quickest way to get it? All I saw was a phone number at their site. Can't I just go to their offices? Wherever those might be.

What do you guys suggest? I'm at an internet cafe so have limited time to get info here..

Any help will be greatly appreciated :) ASAP

I applied online, about 10am, and was phoned back the same day to organise the terminal. Alternatively, go to the SABC buildings yourself. I'm told by the technicians that you will walk out with your terminal, username and password in about 30 minutes...

Thanks guys.

I'll apply online now and see what happens, otherwise maybe go visit tomorrow. Where exactly are they?

I noticed only now ic, it sucks, but I'll just have to pay it :(

Or not... they need bank details and I don't have them with me :( looks like I'll have to phone later.

I'll let you guys know how it goes.

Azgard, WBS iBurst are on the 21st floor - SABC Radiopark.

Don't be confused with WBS Uthingo which are on a lower floor & didn't even seem to know of the existence of iBurst in November.

Well I just got my iBurst modem about 30 minutes ago :)

Plugged it in, then read instructions and unplugged it and installed software and so far everythings working great :)

What are the best settings for me to get optimal performance?

According to Jedi knight Anakin aka Luis @ WBS, make sure MTU is 1392.

What OS are you running again (directly connected to iBurst that is)?

Also, what UT did you get?- UTD or UTC?

How do you change the MTU?

I'm running Windows XP SP2 at the moment, might be running Linux later but won't worry about that now.

I got the UTD I think, the desktop one.

Ok, I have moved my [post=154713]Windows-HowTo-MTU[/post] to the other more appropriate thread.

Thanks ic.

What should be different when I change that MTU value?

Also any ideas how I can set up ICS so that my other PC can get internet access from mine? Both PCs running XP SP2, using the USB cable. Currently my system has an IP of 192.168.0.1, other PC set to acquire IP. But no internet, otherwise the network seems fine.

Also are programs like emule blocked? Since I can get it to connect but nothing downloads...

There isn't any visible difference, WBS have their (routers) MTU set to 1392, best not to go higher than that otherwise you end up with fragmentation & speed issues related to packets being dropped.

On the subject of [thread=16395]ICS, rather resurrect this other thread[/thread].

Thanks for the help yesterday ic. If you don't mind answering another question for me though. What exactly is fragmentation?

I ran framentation tests a little while ago and I was getting fragmented at 1392... so my mtu is set to 1400. Seems to be fine there.

Bishop, I also have my doubts about exactly what WBS have their MTU set to, but Luis has said 1392 is the WBS recommended MTU.

Initially, when I was trying to tweak my PC's TCP/IP settings in November, I ran a number of ping tests (ping -f -l xxxx) to determine the correct MTU setting, but I got some verrry strange results, and eventually I gave up. I can say that since I have set MTU to 1392 the connection has been a tad more mountain-goat-like.
