Hope someone can help me.
Problem is: I need to know how I can reset the login password to access the pc that runs on XP Pro. The previous employee has left for North Africa long time ago and the ppl at my dad's work never asked him for the password. They are IT challenged. Best regards.

Have you tried login via safemode and use administrator as pass?

What???? Aaaaargh! Reload asin: I will have to format the harddisk and reinstall XP Pro OS?

THX

or google the EBCD ( emergency boot cd ) burn it boot it and change/reset any MS passwords without re-loading

Try login in as administrator, most pc's don't have a password on that account... if it's on a domain, login as administrator to (this computer). If the startup screen doesn't allow you to type in a username, hit ctr alt delete twice I think, and a login box should appear.

Edit: If that account is password protected, I recommend Hiren's boot cd (google), it has Active Password Changer on it that can remove passwords.

dude if its a password to get into windows, only a reload of the entire system will get you in
You sure? I thought the entire drive is accessible from another OS. Then one could just copy the user docs and reset the password with a bootcd. If encryption is on then it might take a few weeks to break the password though.

Safemode, Please, how do I execute that?
I think you're a bit out of your depth here.

havoc yea that is the case

im saying though if he does not know the password he wont get into windows on that pc

even if u reload windows without formatting, all the data will still be there

Offline NT password recovery is a Linux boot disk that you burn CD. Boot off it, select the account that you want to change (administrator), select the new password that you want (or just reset it to blank). Offline NT password recovery will then encrypt the password the same way Windows would and write it back to the registry hive.

Voila

I have a disk called ERD Commander, it works great, don’t know how available it is, but it works on most windows platforms, don’t know about vista….
