I have just formatted and reinstalled, now I can't get my modem to work.

I am running Windows 7 Pro 64bit. I have a D-Link DSL-2500U. My ISP is Telkom.

Can someones please tell me what to do!?

Thanks so much

Connect required LAN cable between supplied RJ45 connectors on modem and PC. ;)

Har har! :)

I used basic settings that I used before but my little internet led is staying on red and I get "No Internet Access" from Network Centre. I phoned Telkom and they said it's my problem, not theirs.

Try reset your modem settings and start again.

Honestly it should remember them though

Have u entered ur isp details? Is the modem showing connected? Have you installed your network drivers?

There are normally two lights (on the modem) that are relevant:

  • DSL (or similar): indicates that your DSL connection has synched (to Telkom)
  • Internet (or similar): indicates that you have connected to your ISP.
If you have a single light then the correct interpretation is the manual :)

If one of the lights is red there is a problem with your connection, either to Telkom or your ISP.

The only problem is the ISP part. Everything else is working fine. I can't remember all the ISP details and the Telkom call centre wasn't very helpful - surprise, surprise!

I'm sure I have to put an IP address in somewhere, Telkom's DNS server I think, but I can't remember where or what the address is.

The dns should be set to auto typically. Chech the vpi/vci setting - 8/35 and that its set to pppoe.

This was all correct. I phoned Telkom one last time and it turns out it was their problem. There was something wrong with my account settings so the call centre agent just reset my account and everything was great 20 seconds later! Third time lucky!
