To switch from the SD PVR to a HD Single view,
is it just a case of unplugging the PVR and plugging in the HD Single View. or do I need to have an installer come and do changes. I currently have 2 cables running from the dish to the PVR.

The PVR is dying, hard drive no longer works and date on screen says 1980. I need to get rid of it, but I do not want to spend money on installing new dish, LNB, cables etc for Explora. I dont use the Dual View feature and dont record, therefore the single view.

R500 for Single view is good.
R1500 for explora + 650 for lnb + 350 for install = 2500.00, too much to watch the occasional rugby game.

I am hoping I can just swop the 2 decoders.
Any advice would be great.

I suppose you can simply disconnect from the pvr, and only use one of die coaxial cables for the HD decoder. Just make sure the smartcard for it works.

It depends which connections you were using on your SD PVR.

If you only have it hooked up to one TV, you can just swop it out. If your TV has an HDMI connection, use that rather.

If you have it hooked up to 2+ TVs, it gets a bit more complicated, but it can be done.

You can technically hook up an HD Singleview to up to 3 TV's with just a few extra cables.

I am most concerned about the HD Single view only having 1 cable from the dish. If I only connect 1 of the cables from the PVR, will I get all channels.

I believe Feeding to the other TV's should be a simple matter of disconnecting the RF cable from the PVR and connecting it to the HD Single view.

I have a powered splitter that the PVR powered, I assume that the HD decoder will also power the splitter.

what about the dish size?

I was told by dstv on sunday that I would need to upgrade my old 60cm to a 90cm?

so basically from what they told me I would have to by the explorer / new dish / new lnb plus installation

It will work for what you're planing to use it for. I swapped out my SD single view decoder for a HD single view myself.
Just swap the decoder and wait for the error message.
Call the call centre with the error message and 10mins later I was watching all the HD channels
It didn't require a special LNB and no wires had to be changed no drama it just worked.
I paid R399 for my decoder at the time.

If you have two cables coming from your dish then it must mean you have a dual lnb on the dish. So you will just need to disconnect your old decoder and plug in the new HD single view decoder and contact multichoice to do the decoder/sim swap and you should be good to go.
