How do I tell how fast MYWireless really is?

I've got MYWireless for about a week now. I have the 128k connection, get signal of about anything between 5% - 12%, and get download speeds on an average of 22K. My question is this. I see everyone talking about ping speed, and stuff like that.
How do I determine if my connection could be improved?
Do I need to buy an patch antenna, and if I do, is it likely to make any difference?
What download/ping speeds should I be looking at on a 128K connection?

Use www.tcpIQ.com for testing the speed of your connection. You have to download some software. It gives you the opportunity to compare your service with other people in South Africa, and the rest of the world if you want to.

The Maximum D/l Speed for 128kbits/s is around 16KB/s since 8 bits=1 byte so 128 devided by 8 gives you 16 works out the same for any package, Usually though you should not get the maximum due to other factors so a 128k system should average around 14KB/s your scoring

Ping refers to the latency of your connection. Basically this means the time it takes for a data packet to travel to the destination and back. If all you do is browse or download files then a better ping time will bring you no appreciable difference, however if you play (or intend to play) online games or use voice applications then a better ping will help. All the patch antenna may do is improve your ping time, it will not increase your download speed.

MrJones, you say you only have the 128k system - yet you download at 22K and you want an improvement...
hehe.. if I was you and had a connection like that I would keep dead quite else the good peeps at Sentech might just correct your "problem" []
