I tried buying an app from the playstore with my debit card. Which failed. The FNB guy tells me that Google wallet is not supported in SA. But then how do other people buy apps?

(how did this end up in the Blackberry forum mod please move it)

I linked my credit card. Works fine

Credit cards or Smart Debit cards work.

I know Nedbank and Capitec debit cards work no problem. You can also try VC Pay if you do not have either, I know a couple of people here that used it.

google should open a za bank account, or we should be able to buy via airtime.

Soon, and its not about bank accounts its the Local SP's that needs to work with them to allow for this.

Oh and Google does have a local bank account (FNB) Currently used for adsense.

I got a call from FNB fraud dept. Asking me if I made purchases there was 3 in total 2 of R8 and the other R1, I'm confused. I tried buying swiftkey twice though once on my phone and other via pc.
money sent to "business services"
I also tried to activate paypal after speaking with FNBGUY waiting for them to call back

Both Paypal and Google Pay, does a test transaction $1-$2 when you load the cards the 1st time. This is used to test if the card is valid and normally gets reversed 2-3 days after the fact with no cost to you. That is also why VC Pay tells you to load extra on the card.

Might be said transactions?

People still have debit cards? What is the price difference between a cheque card and a debit card these days anyway?

I use my FNB Visa cheque card. It needs to be an embossed Visa card (any card that you can you use for normal online purchases).

I use operator billing to pay for apps in the BB App World then it simply gets added on to my phone bill. I suspect one must have a post-paid account to do so, so not sure if this helps at all.
