I've never boiled rice in a pot before in my life and I doubt I ever will.

I was always under the impression you're not supposed to stir rice while it's boiling. Maybe that's my problem then.

The rice-cooker is a no-go because I have to work on a student budget.

What I do is bring it to a boil, rinse ad salt and bring to boil again. Wait for all the water to boil off, perfect every time.
If you can't even cook rice you don't belong in a kitchen.
Personally I prefer fried rice.

You also get a plastic container for microwaving rice, which works about as well as the electric one.

If asians use them, then you can.

And asians buy jasmine rice... I don't think they willingly eat Tastic rice.

Haha, implying 5 six packs fit into my monthly budget. There's a reason I only keep hard liquor in my flat.

I hear your pain - had the same rice cooking woes you have

Then I discovered the rice tray in my food steamer
Only 20 minutes and the rice float like a cloud out of the steamer when I lift the lid. ;-)
