How do you find out own Sim Number?

I have bought an MTN modem with a sim card.

The sim card is not Rica'ed as I didn't have my details with me.

How do I find out the cell number for the sim so that it can be Rica-ed? I don't have the packaging with me.

Quite frankly I have absolutely no confidence that this **** RICA stops the criminals for an instance, yet it makes thing extremely difficult for us law-abiding citizens.

funny they were not suposed to sell it to you if you dont Rica.

You don't need the number to RICA, all you need is the physical sim card and the serial number that is written on the sim card itself.

To find out the number just stick the sim card in a phone and send an sms to your normal cellphone number.

Ok, if they can Rica the card through the physical presence of the sim, that will probably do it.

You can't find out the number by sms-ing or 'phoning another 'phone as the sim is barred for not being RICA compliant.

Aaah, ok. By the way, I think nowadays sim cards are only assigned a number after they have been RICA'd anyway.

I have RICA'd the franging thing, and have recieved the following SMS:

Tellingly, when I try to buy Data Bundles for the damn thing I get the following error message:

Please note that you cannot buy Data Bundles until your cellphone number has been registered for RICA. Please register at any store that sells MTN starterpacks

Honestly, it really goes a long way to restoring your faith in the stupidity of the mobile 'phone operators in this country, doesn't it?

I honestly don't believe that RICA will stop any but the most brainless of criminals, but, it certainly stuffs up any legitimate use of a new SIM card by law abiding citizens.
