Which spring are you using? The one at SAB closed ages ago. Used to be one by the old age home, is it that one?Why not get from Newlands spring if water is out or dodgy?

Bacteria need a food source to accumulate, and to survive. If anything, your impure water will actually gets more safe with storage. This is because tap water is typically impure, carrying bacteria that may accumulate during storage.
If you're going to the effort of filtering your water why not make it potable? My plan is to get a nice filtration system for my wellpoint water, then I will be okay in terms of showers and flushing. So long as the municipal pumps work that is.
Pipe bursts all the time. It is good practice to have some form of backup. Most of SA infrastructure is not maintained or not properly maintained.
In Bryanston we are out at least once every two weeks. So I got one of these, but I don't use it for drinking water:Thanks to all the helpful posts. I had a 36hr water outage a while back due to some localised issue and it would have been awesome to have 25L of water on hand even just for washing hands/bucket bath. A proper blackout would kill all the pumps and having some water on hand would be pretty helpful.
