Hi GUys

I never owned a Blackberry and for the first time I might get one.I am trying to understand BIS.
Does it mean if you donot have BIS you cannot get emails on your phone with data bundles,I see
no option to setup email on the Blackberry like one would do it on Andriod or Iphone.

Also what about internet browsing ? Whatsapp etc, do I nee BIS for this.

Thanks
DD

Ive a BB on Mtn. BIS (blackberry Internet Service) means no data charges, all email and websurfing, music streaming I do on it is part of the monthly cost be it one email downloaded or a multiple megs. However if you tether you get charged data rates. You enter your prefered email address in the set up and received emails for that account.

Basically you pay the monthly fee for access to the Blackberry access point on the network, this allows you to use BBM, browse the net, use apps like Whatsapp at no extra charge, watch out for things like YouTube and downloads as some networks charge you normal data rates for this over the BIS access fee.

My 2c: Don't get a Blackberry, get a Android or Windows Phone device with a data bundle they are infinitely better phones.

Yes you do pay monthly but its worth it. Android and apple cost you a lot as our networks think its their right to rape us.
Since on Android my bill has shot up a lot.
Be prepared for a hike in your bill related to data

Well I get 300meg included with my contract and it lasts me a month, so it all depends on your usage patterns.

A lot of the time BIS is painfully slow. That R60 would get you 400MBs on on CellC, which is plenty for when you're away from home/work/wherever where you don't have access to wifi.
Rather go for Android/iPhone, better phones, better apps, better everything really.

Speaking of BIS, I would recommend users to get a smartphone on Cell C. Using a Vodacom SIM in my S2 just reminded me as to why I dumped my Blackberry- Vodacom is horrible.

On the contrary, I can make do with 50mb a month on Android but that's without downloading any large apps. Strictly browsing, social networking via Tweetdeck and Whatsapp and email.

check mtn for that package, its like R49. Android id def better and u cant download on BB. Cell c has it for R27 tho thats the cheapest plan

I see all MTN Anytime 100 contracts come with 75mb included which isn't bad if you can't afford a new phone upfront.

thanks Guys, but what I also wanted to know is if I have a Blackberry and I donot subscribe to BIS , can I use wireless
and or data bundles to get emails and surf the internet please.

Basically a BB without BIS is useless, I've had a BB for 3 years now and if BIS is not active or if it is down, the device is basically only used for phone calls and sms's, If you have active WiFi everywhere then you don't need BIS.

Bottom line BB's are useless without BIS, Also just a heads up, from experience and from witnessing my friends ISP's performance. CellC BIS is the best.

If you have many friends with blackberry's then get one too. Bbm will become a drug-like necessity. I cant do without my bb as most of my friends and family members are on bbm too.
When people ask whats so different about bbm compared to WhatsApp ? Bbm groups can take up to 30 members.

I read the hate messages from the Apple and Samsung fanbooi's but i pay only R59 for data on a phone that i really use. Thats what i need, thats what i got.
