Hi everybody,

I am planning to buy some replacement parts for a smartphone online in order to fix it. However, I have had no experience whatsoever on buying stuff online. I have a few questions: What is the process like? Do the stuff get delivered to my door? Or do I have to fetch it somewhere? How / Where do I pay the import duties and tax?

Please excuse me for the noob quetions but I hope someone can enlighten me on this.

Thanks

Items get put into a virtual shopping cart. You check out and pay (eft, card, whatever the merchant offers). Items will be delivered depending on the delivery option you choose and are available from wherever you're buying from.

From a site called "formymobile.co.uk" and ebay.....So is the tax and duties included in the cost or must I pay it on delivery or elsewhere?

I sometimes order from ebay. You will be charged for import duties etc.I normally buy phone covers so i am not charged anything extra and it is delivered to the postbox at my home.I have ordered a soap set for a friend from ebay worth a total of R400 and paid roughly R 70 in customs.I received a letter in postbox stating how much i owed, the package was delivered to my nearest post office and i had to pay the clerk upon collection.Any amount over R150 attracts customs fees.If you are purchasing in countries outside SA always use paypal.I paid a seller who didnt ship an item, submitted a claim with paypal and the money was refunded.

Depends on where you order from. Some categories don't attract custom fees but you'll pay 14% vat calculated at the exchange rate on the day and a customs fee that seems to vary.

I've ordered from http://www.phonextreme.co.za/ locally before and the guy seems honest even though I had to remind him again to send my stuff.
