General rule - if an event can break you financially, insure it, no matter how unlikely to occur. If you can cover it from savings, consider self-cover.
The same that happened to the cyclist and guy who hit me? ie Insurance gives up on recovery because it's too much hassle...
9 years after my car got written off by the deeds of an unlicensed and uninsured lorry driver from Clanwilliam, I receive an email from attorneys acting for Santam to please call urgently and confirm a statement I made in 2008 about this accident. I ask them to email it to me, they refuse.
Since their office is in the city, I would have to drive there, pay for parking and drive back. A good 3 hours down the drain. I tell them to send someone to see me. Nobody arrives.
Today I get a call from an investigator. They are still pursuing the case for a group of loss adjusters and it seems all the other witnesses have given these attorneys the finger. If I recall the losses was in the order of R8m
We are meeting at Barristers in Newlands tomorrow and he is buying lunch
