Good day

I have Do Broadband as my ISP.

Do you use local cap when downloading from local sites while you still have international cap, or does local cap only become active when your international cap is finished?

Please advise.

I use flagfox on firefox to see where site is. [local or usa, etc]

Unfortunately, even if you use all month long just local, telkom first count 1gig, then when that is done, local only.
How unfair.

Unfortunately... You have to use up the international bandwidth no matter where you go... Then you "unlock" the local capp

When you download local stuff it uses the submarine cable too. That's why you use up your international. Telkom logic!

Uhm its works like this. You give your local to us! :)

I have received a bill of R107 for exceeding my local so I will like SAIX local accounts! :)

I prefer using the prepaid IS local-only accounts from OpenWeb that are capped at 10 or 30GB.
If you want to use the local-only bandwidth, you have to either deplete your international/blended account's cap first OR get a second local-only account first. I think you can still get a WebAfrica local-only trial account for free: http://forums.webafrica.co.za/_2661.html

You can use 2 accounts at the same time and route all the local traffic through the local-only account and then the other traffic via the international/blended account by means of "traffic splitting", see http://developers.locality.co.za/splitting
RouteSentry is the most common way of doing it for Windows users, but its the most impractical way of doing it too.

Why would it be impractical? Is there something else I should be using instead. I'd love to set up a spare ipcop box but for that I would need a spare box.

Its impractical in the sense that every PC in the house has to use RouteSentry OR you have to setup ICS (Internet Connection Sharing) and keep that PC thats running RouteSentry switched on 24/7. Where as, if you're using a cool broadband router such as the Linksys WRT54G(L) or the Asus wl-520gU, you can do the traffic splitting without running any software or having to do any modifications on the PC's.

Also, RouteSentry can only utilize/split traffic across 2 connections. Other issues include: you have to use RASPPPoE for Windows XP/2000, and you require registry modifications for Windows Vista/7 - UNLESS you're using your router in half-bridge mode.
There are more bugs with RouteSentry that I'm not gonna name now, which you can find in the RouteSentry thread on myBB.

I find it very useful actually! Have my router in half bridge mode. Works wonders! Especially tonight. I'm going to dial the local connection 30.min 00:00am and the international connection for the same account tomorrow. Then I use 1Telkom account to split my local and international. I shouldn't disconnect though. But it will help a lot! :-)
