I sell medical diagnostic equipment. It is all USB based. My problem is that I cannot open the files on my computer that show copies of sample tests (used when doing demos for doctors etc)

I am not sure if this is related to my upgrading from Office 2003 to Office 2007 or not. (I use Windows XP)

The two particular file extensions are .spi and .ige

How do I remedy ths problem quickly?

There are all these file extension sites when you google , but they mostly inlcude you donwloading software to do regitry scans etc and I am nervous of this!

Any advice would be appreciated?

Not sure what you mean by "fix"?
Are those extensions opening in the wrong application?
Or do they not open at all?

If the latter, I have no idea :-)

If the former:
Hold down shift and right click on the file.
Choose Open With
Choose your application and click "always use this app" < or something like that :-)

They are not opening at all! and I am not sure of the related / comparable progra to use to open them the "open with"

Both these extensions are related to images, in that they open test results / report printouts, ne or our ecg and one for our spirometer.

Are you the only person who opens them?
If not, go to someone elses PC and go as far as the open With instruction.
Hover your mouse over that, and a list of executables is displayed. See what they are.

How safe are al these registry cleaners/ scanners that one can download? Is there a particular one that I can use to see what problems there are and clean up the system, or is this a bad thing?

I am not that knowledgeable about these things

I dont think its a registry issue - at least, that is the last thing I would try.

MMMMhh thanks, went into it , see where you are going but a bit of an information overload for me. Waiting for our tech support lady to get back to me from Cape Town, and failing that , will take my laptop around to my boyfriend who come from an IT background and see if he can do anything.

Just that it is in my nature to want to sort things out for myself. I am also doing a presentaion on my products to a group of doctors later today and don't want to look like a nunu cos I cannot open the sample reports :(

so the registry scanners and cleaners etc are a total no no???
You need appropriate software to open the files. Scanning the registry isn't going to do anything so rather leave the registry alone. If you do decide to play around with the registry BACK IT UP first.

Try opening the files in Photoshop first, it's mentioned quite a few times in the link I posted.
