How does one get WiMax?

You have to apply for adsl first, then if you fall outside the adsl footprint, then they should offer you Wi-Max.

Quick question...
What would my chances be of getting WiMax if I fall outside of the DSL footprint, and I stay in an estate that controls access (which means that I can't apply for a DSL line myself). Do you think that if I pleaded enough with telkom that they may feel sympathetic enough to offer it to me?
I am trying to circumnavigate this company that controls everything in the estate I just moved into by getting my own DSL, but I can't let telkom fiddle with their systems. I have looked into iBurst as a temporary option, no coverage. I looked at 3G/HSDPA, no coverage. I am really keen on WiMax, but... I gotta apply for a DSL line.

two words: "Good luck". i've tried everything and they just dont want to give me wimax. oh, and the small factor that apparently there isn't coverage in my area. for some reason i doubt it. oh well.

My advice would be to not live in the Estate, I would never allow someone to dictate access etc to me.

Well there is no ADSL to where I live... And Telkom can't even say when there will be...

At last, Telkom just called me to tell my my Wimax will be installed tomorrow at 12pm....at long last I can enjoy connectivity.

I have to say I am (once again) extremely dissapointed in telkom. The wimax system is installed at my house, and the right lights are lit, but I cannot connect. They guy that installed the thing at my house has still not 'activated' the thing. Its been 3 days. I've bought my ADSL account which I want to use, etc, but still.....
Why does everything internet related in South Africa have to be such a schlep!!!
