So, with the announcement of rebates on solar for us from Government, and the allocation of what I think (unless i'm wrong) is a rather miniscule amount towards offsetting the cost of power for residentials i was left wondering if Gov's decision was even worth much.
To that end I was browsing the net to see what other countries are doing for their people with regards to solar.
Greece just announced its solar incentive plan for RESIDENTIAL and FARMERS. I've pasted the article below to compare. Yes, it is an EU Country but its also one that was effectively bankrupt. I feel South Africa could have done more for us given what they're offering below...
The total budget of the program is 200 million euros and the subsidy of the photovoltaic system reaches up to 75% installation cost (cabling, inverter, panels, etc) for households and 60% for farmers. The battery subsidy (battery requirements vary per residence) is 90% and 100%, depending on the income category. The total subsidy of the photovoltaic system with battery can reach up to 16,000 euros for households and 10,000. euros for farmers. Beneficiaries of the program will be able to see savings on their electricity bills of up to 3,000 euros per year. A further 10% subsidy will apply to disabled and single-parent families. Residents will apply online for their subsidy which will be paid to installers who are registered electrical dealers and installers with Government. Persons will be responsible for paying the difference directly to the installer, or may choose to finance it with some banks offering 1.5%-3% interest on balance of subsidy loans specifically for solar systems.
