How does the upgrade to 4Mbps work?

Ok, so i want to upgrade my 384 line to a 4 meg, and was wondering how does it work if i want to upgrade half way throught the month, if anyone knows?

Will telkom charge me the whole month, or just half a month?, or if i have it changed like on the 27th, will i be charged for 3 days or a full month?.
I want to upgrade my line for december and january and then maybe have it changed back wich i found out at telkom direct is R160 to have it downgraded.
Now if i want to change it back and want my line to be a 384 line on the 1st of february, do they do this?, or do they just switch you over in their own time?

i dont want to phone telkom and ask cause they always talk cr@p and nobody really knows whats going on, so i rather ask the pro's here.

Its instant. The change to higher lower speeds are instant and yes its prorata if you signup 27th.

As mentioned in a previous post, you will be charged prorata. If you do the upgrade in the middle of the month, you will be charged at 384 rate for the first halve and for 4Mbps the rest of your billing month.
I don't know about the R160.00 downgrade fee. I was forced to do a downgrade yesterday from 4meg to 384 and no charges were involved.
The upgrade / downgrade can take anything from 24 up to 48 hours to implement.
 
To upgrade is free, to downgrade will cost you.

Your monthly rental will however go up. For the particulars phone Telkom on 0800375375 or visit your nearest Telkom Direct office.
 
What number do i phone to make the upgrade? i want to have the Do3 Package. Everyone is telling me something different when i phone in, can someone please run me through this so i dont make a mistake please. I dont want to have no internet while i wait for my upgrade, please help me out to make the upgrade right from those of you who have done it before,please.

If you have adsl the upgrade is instant. They won't give you the details imediatly. They reckon the tech must first do something at the exchange which is not true. You will see its basically instant. You once you upgraded you can ask them for the username and password or not up to you. :-)

They will tell you 7days before the upgrade will take place. Bull Sh** its instant cause its simply a profile change.
 
My upgrade from 384k to 4mbps took four days (working days). Logged the request on Friday afternoon and it was done by Thursday afternoon.

Funny things was, nothing happened for a few days and when I asked for an update, it was done an hour later. Coincidence? not.

According to WA speed upgrade on an existing adsl line takes 7 to 21 days.
 
whats all this about pro-rata stuff, the lady told me i could look at paying R1000 to R1500 on January or something like that.

All i want is the Do3 for R554
 
oh, and btw, have you noticed how quick the billing department answers. As soon as you push ur last button, a person answers. But the other numbers can take up to an hour
 
28 days and counting,telkom haven't upgraded yet...
 
I have been trying for the last 1 1/2 week to upgrade from 384k to 4096. I have logged calls with 10219, but have not had any luck with the upgrade. Out of desperation I called 0800 375 375 (dsl helpline) again today, and the consultant activated my 4096 line within an hour.

Look likes it is the luck of the draw though, as I phoned 0800 375 375 yesterday, and the consultant told me i should call 10219, as they can not do anything about it and upgrades are with a different department.

So phone untill you find the right consultant it seems......
 
Upgrade ranges from almost instant to a day or 2. Like someone said, its a profile change, nothing gets done physically. If you wait longer than that you are stupid and need to follow it up properly.

No no. It just mean that you will not be charged for the full month. They pro rata you from when you got the service.

If you signup in the middle of the month you will only pay 50% But I'm not sure what it will be cause you are taking a do package cause Bandwidth don't get pro rata just the line.

The only thing I can think of is that you will pay this months do subscription at the end of december and then january too. That's why it might be high cause I think you pay 1 month in advanced.

Or if you have a telkom direct shop near you go there. they know what they are doing! :)
