How Fanboys See Operating Systems

I see linux like the Linux guys but also the same for Macs, Windows is the kid with a BSOD screen. :D

The images are correct but the perception of what counts is wrong.

Mac is shown as a baby pc - well that's true - it's easy to use and just works. The Mac Pro variants have superior h/w to non-workstation Windows variants and those workstation variants cost the same as Mac Pros (Dell's and HPs).

The image of Windows with all those stupid pedals, screens and monitors is actually childish. It's for gamerz, guys who play gamez on their PCs and see the value of the OS as how many gamez it can play. Bearing in mind that most PC gamerz only play a handful of gamez and that the widest variety of gamez is on consoles (prolly PS2 if you go to any store) you will question the sensibility of many Windoze Gamerz OS fans. Of course some gamez don't run on consoles - those pesky strategy gamez - but oops they natively run on Mac OSX or and they can be run in Bootcamp anyway. Mac and a console = gaming covered. Windows is ok in general, and sometimes it's necessary but the fanboys here are mostly just gamerz and want most economy for the buck - but what for? To play gamez. Unless they're game developers or game editors for sites/magazines and earn their money that way - they just want economy to waste time and money. Mac users don't usually buy machines for gaming - they buy machines to get work done, and they may end up paying a bit more but they're investing in a productive endeavour not gamez.

Linux is an enthusiast OS but if you know how to use it and have the right tools, it's great. It's also FREE.

That it is, .. its a lot more than that as its a lot of things, it almost runs most of the world big corporates, is on most of the worlds top super computers and runs most of the Internet. People are very enthusiastic about it... because its the best at what it does. Macs are great for making pretty pictures.

Interesting factoid, while some people might try down play the game industry.. its bigger than the movie industry.

No, when I meant enthusiast I meant that it's an enthusiast level OS. It's for people who want to go the extra mile to learn the in-and-outs. I have 2 prosumer level cameras - the manuals are terrible. They're full of settings and diagrams but they don't explain how to do anything or even switch the device on - they just say ND Filter 1/64 toggle switch - turns on the ND Filter 1/64. That's it. You have to know what you're doing or you'll just let the thing lie there. In contrast consumer (non-Enthusiast) level cameras are easy - they explain every function and usually what it's for. That's what I meant. Linux is sadly at that level. It also has a shortage of apps. Unlike Linux Mac OSX has tons of excellent apps, you can do entirely without Windows. You have your choice of FOSS and commercial apps.

Do you mean Hollywood? Did you include TV as well? Do you also include the rest of the world's TV and movie and direct-to-video productions as well?

Since I dont work with graphics or video, I dont need Windows at all for anything I do. I can even play WoW in Linux... If I need an alternative OS Ill use something useful to me like Windows, I dont find my Mac and its OS useful (except for perhaps Itunes) at all, but as I said... I dont work with pretty pictures or make porn.

Linux is first and foremost the worlds best server OS, it is still a baby in the desktop market. It will improve dramatically there over the next 10 years. This is good for Apple, so they can copy more FOSS code as they need it to keep their OS alive.

Well its certainly bigger than Hollywood.

I was simply repeating whats being reported.
http://www.nbr.co.nz/opinion/chris-keall/games-officially-bigger-movies

I didnt bother think of direct to video or tv stuff just like I didnt consider games like World of Warcraft with 15 million uses, Second Earth or any of the thousands of other games not taken into account.

It was a simple comparison of blockbuster games vs blockbuster videos.

You know, people buy his stuff and they're enthusiastic about it. On the other hand people are not so enthusiastic about Apple's competitors.

OSX vs Windoze.
OSX vs Windows Mobile vs Android
iTMS vs ???
iPhone vs Android vs Nokia vs Samsung
iPod vs ???

However, like it or not, Macs work great. They work and they continue to work.
People who've never used them - don't understand that. They follow the chair throwing, huffing and puffing guy - Steve Ballmer.

Just pointing out mac make tons of money because their mark up is through the roof.

They found a market for more expensive = better, highly intelligent and making them tons of cash :D.

So good on them for figuring out you can make a fortune selling things expensive and low quantity than cheaper and high quantity.

Awesome stuff :D. Likes those okes who pay 2-3k for jeans just to say look at my 3k jeans. The jeans more than likely cost 50 bucks to make.

Nothing is stopping MS from doing the same - heck MS actually does that except they made a dud called Vista, people bought that, then they corrected the dud and made it Win 7 and people have forgiven them and are buying that too. Every few years MS makes businesses and individuals buy upgraded versions of Office and Server. LOL.

People however, are happy to pay A LITTLE MORE for a Mac and get to do their work faster and have spare time left over to play or earn money elsewhere. Windows fans who diss Mac simply fail to grasp that.

Cheap shoes from PEP vs ECCOS. Yes I know PEP shoes are nice, except they fall apart after a year. The Eccos are more comfortable and will last many more years. Yes you could buy cheap.

They make good quality things. The only thing better in quality to a Mac is a $3000-5000 Panasonic assembled in Osaka. I haven't seen a non-Panasonic machine including Dell, Sony, Toshiba, Lenovo, Acer etc - which could approach Mac quality. Sony Vaios are terrible. I thought they were nice once until I got a Pany and then a NEC. MBPs and MBs are great too.

You can buy original Levis for R600 to R800. Yes, I know you can also buy jeans for R200 (I dunno where in SA you can buy cheaper) but those cheap jeans will not survive more than a few washes. Yes, buying more expensive than Levi is crazy as there quality increase won't be as much as the price increase but if you have a lot of cash go ahead. The thing is that Mac is only on the Levi level while generic PCs exist in the Levis to PEP no-name jeans range.

You do pay for quality. The only problem is when prices are artificially increased and the choice reduced as is the case in SA. Then you pay more for the same - Core.
