A friend of mine is in the process of purchasing a new notebook and he's looking at similarly spec'd HP and ASUS lappy's. Now I've been using ASUS hardware products (Mobo's, GFX cards etc.) for years and I've had nothing but positive things to say but I have little experience as far as their notebooks are concerned.

How do their notebooks compare to the likes of HP, Dell and the likes?
I want to make a recommendation but I don't want to point him in the wrong direction.

Without doubt some of the best Notebooks out there. They also build machines that fly in the face of the boring and repetitious designs from other manufacturers out there (as in, they like to experiment a lot with form factors etc.).
I obviously can't vouch for each model but from what I've read they're also in the top list of dependability...
These stats might be a bit old in some cases so I'm not sure what it'll look like today, but here goes:

I've had my G73 now for just over three years and it's only recently started giving me some issues with the second SATA drive, I think it might just be a loose connection or something. I don't blame it though, this machine has been through absolute hell over the years. I've spilled on it, for 1.5 years I used it almost permanently (as in work, gaming etc. etc.) and only switched it off for the drive home.

I'm definitely getting another Asus notebook as my replacement.

I've used Asus lappy's (and components) for many years and yet to find a fault - solid with great performance and durability.
