Is it wotrh it to upgrade to a 4Mbps uncapped account from Mweb?

I recently saw that the prices of 4Mbps lines have come down a lot, and I was wondering if its worth it to switch from a 2Mbps Uncapped account from Afrihost to an Mweb 4Mbps Uncapped account?

Thanks in advance.

If you're on 2meg Standard, going to 4Meg standard you will be happy.

If you're on 2meg premium, going to 4meg premium you'll be happy.

If you're on 2meg premium going to 4meg standard you may, or may not be happy.

Hi Option, we do offer 7 day trial accounts.

You can use this to test if it meets your needs.

Tell me what sort of usage are you looking at per month ?

My usage is around ~450GBs per month on a 4Mb Line. I take it that neither the Standard, nor the Premium Uncapped accounts would be suitable for me then?

If that is your total usage - upload + download, then I think you should be okay. Looks like they throttled me when I downloaded more than the set limit, not the combined usage. If it is just download, then no - you won't be okay.

Premium 4Meg throttles at 400GBs.

So you have to run a 6meg premium account on your 4meg line.

400GBs would be enough if I were guaranteed my full line speed for the entire duration until I reach the threshold. Since the account will be shaped during peak hours, this wouldn't be the case.

Also, I think I've read somewhere that the threshold kicks in based on your usage forecast, and not on your actual usage for the period. Is this rumour or true?

When a new client signs up, we do not have 30 days usage available to impose our throttling on.

Therefore the system calculates daily averages instead and will impose throttling if you exceed the daily average of the said account.

The first calculation of daily average occurs on day 15.

This also only happens during the first month, when we do not have 30 days usage to base the throttling/threshold on.

This just seems like another way for MWEB to squeeze maximum profits from their subscribers. :(

Its also to ensure that the client is not throttled for an extended period after the 1st month.

If we were to leave the client till the account had 30 days of usage available.

Clients would be able to exceed the threshold by too much, this would have an impact on the client during the second month.

It would make it more difficult for the client to get below the thresholds imposed on the package.

Kind of makes sense. It does however assume that your customers are incapable of controlling and monitoring their own usage. This leads me to believe that MWEB is an ISP for users who have little to no understanding of the concept of bandwidth consumption. A "mom & pop" ISP if you will. :p
